Hi Chuck, and congrad on your placement. My wait for a heart ended July 25th. I am making a 100 mile walk in Nov to try to sign up 5,000 new donors, and will keep you in my thoughts while you wait for THE phone call. My first walk is in this sight if you have a boring day with no GOOD reading material available. Good luck with your journey. I'm just one step ahead of you...

Chuck, I had a heart transplant going on 16 years ago at NY Presbyterian and my surgeon was television's Mehmet Oz, MD. I am doing fantastic. I read that Temple gave you some reservations so you switched transplant centers. I was turned down by a three centers in my home state of FL before going to NYP which was known as Columbia Presbyterian back then. The first FL transplant center rejected me on the basis that I impressed them as being medically non-compliant and therefore wouldn't thrive causing the others in FL to follow suit. I believe the real reason was that I was a risky case and they didn't want to risk a negative statistic with me. I mention this so that you remain relentlessly persistent and seek another center in case your current center wimps out on you for any reason (you can't believe their reasons in many cases and their negativity won't help you anyway). Good luck and stay positive and resolved. If you haven't already, apply for Social Security Disability so you can get Medicare which follows 2 years after being accepted for SSDI! They will likely turn you down but don't give up. Call your Congressman and/or get a SS lawyer specialist to appeal and get you retro-active benefits to get you on Medciare more quickly. Hope this helps and my email is ibalib@att.net if I can help. Alan

My 24 year old husband is suffering from Acute Liver Failure, and is waiting a liver transplant. Reading your story has given me hope. Hope that I've begun to lost because I hate seeing him unconscious, and hooked to all sorts of machines just struggling to keep him alive. Knowing that I am not the only one experiencing this is hard to believe at times, but thank you for sharing your story. I wish you and your family the best as you continue in your journey.

Hi Chuck! I saw the Bonnie Hunt show the other day, only to find out it was a rerun. I noticed you were able to raise the money, but I wanted to make a donation to you because your story touched my heart and I know it may not be a lot, but I hope what I sent can help you in some way. You are in my thoughts and prayers

I just saw you on the Bonnie Hunt show; I learned that it was a rerun. I am praying that by now you have at least raised the money you need for your transplant and are on the donner list. I did read that the raffle helped you raise almost enough money for the operation. I have read how hard transplants can be on a person's body so I am also praying that everything goes as it should and that you have a fast recovory! I am sorry for all that you and your family have already went through. My mother had cancer so I know how difficult it must be. I am glad for the support you have found in so many people that has been a blessing.

I saw the repeat episode of your 1st time appearance on the Bonnie Hunt Show. I was wondering how your transplant went and looked up this website. It sounds like you didn't have the transplant yet and I am sending on a donation to your cause. God willing your transplant will be soon and very SUCCESSFUL!!! You and your wife have a long journey ahead of you and it looks like a painful and hard journey that you have already gone through. God is Good and he will come through for you!!

Congratulations on meeting your goal. I think your appearance on bonnie was the help you needed. i bought a ticket because i know what you are going through. but also because i wanted to help you. I am happy for the winner, (wish i could have won). I hope she gets good use from either the money or the prizes. I know if i would have won i would have taken the money. It would have made my goal amount for my liver transplant/ pd off my house / and helped another transplant patient that needed funds. Maybe my time will come for my funds too. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND I LOOK FORWARD FOR UPDATES ON YOUR PROGRESS. I HOPE YOUR WAIT IS SHORT.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I could be in your shoes. Two years ago i became ill with lung disease caused by autoimmune disease. I was on 10 liters of oxygen and could barely talk or walk any distance. I was told i would need a lung transplant if i didn't get better and the chances of getting better were slim to none. I am better, only need oxygen to sleep. I lost alot of my lung function but the doctors tell me I have really beat the odds. I hope you are as blessed as i have been. Hang in there and stay positive. My brothers name was Lester Hujus he suffered from Alpha-1 antitrypsin Genetic Lung Disease. He had lung reduction, and was put on a transplant list.He refused the list later after finding the cost to the family would be devastating. We lost him in 03 and I cant put into words how I feel about his lose.I to have the same genitic disease. My numbers are slightly higher so I wont need a transplant,(hopefully)While I sat in my doctors office he alerted me that my brother was in ICU he suffered for 5 days till god called him.I tell you this so that you fight and dont give up,lester worried about the money.I wish he had told us what he was up against,we would have moved heaven and earth to help him.Well I cant move heaven, but I think you found a small part of it when you got hooked up with Bonnie Hunt.I am going to buy a raffle ticket on pay day (friday).I wish it could be more.Promise me that you will remeber all those that couldnt get the transplant and when you take your first breath with your new lungs, think of them.My prayers are with you,and God bless you and watch over you threw your journey. ere your next breath is coming from.

I am a 71yr.old Disabled Viet Nam Veteran. I was a Navy Nurse. I received a Spinal cord injury which has caused me to be in severe pain day and night. Thankfully, the VA System is taking care of my medical needs, but I know many others who aren't so fortunate. You are lucky to have so many people who cared enough to start this drive. Were you in a war zone as a Marine? If you were, your COPD might be service-connected and you would be eligible for help from the VA. My prayers are with you and your family. I don't need the townhouse or car but just wanted to help you a little.

hi Chuck, well guess what! I finally scraped together 50 bucks and I purchased a ticket for your raffle today! I am so excited for you that you are getting such nationwide coverage for your needs. I am so positive that you will get on the list in no time flat. I am on the transplant list for a liver and I am have been looking for ways to raise funds as well. I do not have resources for a raffle, as no one is willing to donate any big ticket items to help me. You are ill, yes, but you are very lucky to have people in your corner helping you! If I win the raffle I am taking the cash option so I can put 75K in my transplant fund, 100K to pay off my house for peace of mind while I am getting sicker, and the other 25K will go to different charities and help out another transplant pt that needs financial help. Good luck to you and good luck to me as well. I am praying for you daily!! GO CHUCK GO CHUCK GO CHUCK!!!

Chuck, I like many others saw your story on the Bonnie Hunt show. What an angel she is to get your story out to so many people. I am a new RN and my heart goes out to anyone who is sick and suffering, but your story weighed extra heavy on my heart. I couldnt stop thinking about you. I went to your website read more about you and had no reservations about doing my small part to help. I bought a ticket and sent a link to all my families and friends, hoping they also would want to help. Hang in there, live each day to the fullest..a positive attitude and Jesus will carry you through...you WILL meet your goals and live a long full life. I will include you and your family in my daily prayers and I will tell people about your cause every chance I get. Stay positive !!!

Chuck & Family - I saw you today on the Bonnie Hunt show. You touched my heart. My family too has experienced the result of lung diseases. My brother is recovering from his second lung transplant and my husband's cousin is recovering from her double lung transplant. I personally know how difficult it is on a person and their family waiting for a transplant, but I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to have to raise the money for the surgery. I will do everything in my power to get your story to all my friends and family. You and your family will be in my prayers daily.
