Hello and thank you for visiting,
The reason for this website is simple...
Bad things happen to Good people.
Since leaving the military in the early 80's, Cheryl had up to about 3 years ago spent her life as a working single mom, doing an amazing job raising 3 children (one doctor, one teacher, one still in school.), and being a Grandma to a growing tribe of grandkids.
Over the last 3 years Cheryl has developed crippling, incurable C.O.P.D. as a direct result of exposure to chemicals at a construction site while working at her job as a security consultant.
The firms responsible for this exposure promptly assembled their lawyers and it was soon determined that somehow, they were not responsible for any of Cheryl's injuries and Cheryl has never gotten a dime either in workmans comp. payments or from any settlement.
If it weren't for disability insurance that Cheryl wisely purchased years earlier on her own, (which didn't begin paying until one year after her permanent disability was medically determined),
Cheryl would be surviving on her SS disability check and as we all know, that is meant to be a supplement, not a primary income source and there is no way anyone can live on that amount of money.
As a result of this disease Cheryl now has difficulty even crossing a room and is permanently accompanied by her trusty oxygen tank and hose.
At this point her only option for long term survival is to replace both of her demolished lungs
Many people would have been understandably overwhelmed by all of this but not Cheryl.
She is more determined than ever to get through this and continue to be a part of the lives of her children and grandchildren.
There is just one problem...
Once the surgery begins,
Cheryl can consider herself to be in debt for roughly 100000 to 120000 dollars!
Her insurance covers no more than 80 % of the expected 700000 dollar cost of this surgery and the subsequent medications and follow-up care afterwards.
Simple fact:
Without these medications and the constant monitoring required by transplant patients after surgery,
Cheryl will die.
We intend to see that that doesn't happen!
While the odds of a few everyday people raising this kind of money alone are pretty slim,
we know that
Lord willing and with the help of this website and other venues,
We will find a way to come as close as possible to our goal.
Thank you for your time and thank you in advance should you decide to help
There are some options listed below for doing just that.
Family and friends of Cheryl Parker are working very hard to raise money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
We have chosen in part to fundraise with NTAF - The Leader in Fundraising Assistance and Support for Transplant and Catastrophic Injury in part because NTAF provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a contribution to this fundraising campaign:

- Day 3, so far , so good....
-
Quick update before heading to Miami.
Going into her third day post-op, Cheryl really couldn't be doing any better!
Yesterday evening, more of her various tubes, sensors, etc.were removed,She went for her first walk (about 30 feet!) and is eating and drinking normally.
She may even set a new record for moving out of the I.C.U.in the least amount of days after surgery!!!
God is truly with this woman.
There are bound to be complications later with infection and rejection of her new lungs but every day that she progresses before that happens greatly improves her body's ability to survive these issues.
But,as it stands now, there is nothing but great news!.
That's the latest.
Thank you all for caring. - Cheryl has her new lungs!
-
On June 23,2011 Cheryl Parker was matched with a donor and underwent her transplant surgery.
She came through her surgery with flying colors and no serious complications,Thank God.
Cheryl is currently still in the surgical I.C.U. and will be for some days yet.
She is alert and actually breathing on her own!
She has a long, long road ahead but with the strength that she has and the help of good people,we expect a long and healthy life for her.
This truly was a life-saving operation.
Check back for updates and thanks for reading.
