Jeff Granger Harris

Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund
West Chester, PA

Jeff Harris is raising money to pay for uninsured medical, maintenance and other extraordinary expenses associated with his spinal cord injury which has rendered him a quadriplegic. Jeff was treated at a neurological ICU in Norfolk, Virginia before being flown back to Philadelphia where he spent several months at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. The marriage of his “can-do” attitude and the assistance he’s received from friends and family via the HelpHOPELive program have fueled his remarkable progress in the direction of an independent life.

Since leaving Magee he completed his bachelor’s degree from Temple, an advanced degree from Penn and has been trained and re-licensed to operate his own specially modified van. All of this has allowed him to re-enter the work force in his chosen field and he hasn’t forgotten what Magee has done for him as he volunteers his time there in a number of ways. 18 months ago he moved out into his own apartment, albeit with the necessary, and very expensive, assistance of morning and evening aides. New to the workforce, it will be many years before his earnings come even close to matching just his condition-related extraordinary expenses.

Jeff has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to his contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically related expenses.

2013 Philadelphia Curl-A-Thon

Link to event Page (http://www.facebook.com/events/323979614389202/)

Thank you to all who came out the last 5 years and made this event such an incredible and enduring success. Over the last 5 years you have raised over 100k dollars. The money that you donated and the support you have given me has had an incredible impact on my life. I hope those who have made it out in the past, can come and make the event another resounding success. Those who haven't been, you're missing out and hope to see you this year.

To those who don't know about the event, the Curl-a-Thon, is a fundraiser put on by my friends and family at the Philadelphia Curling Club, which I've been a member of since 1997. The event is open to everyone (friends, family, strangers etc.), there will be food, drinks, and curling going on from 6pm Friday, March 8th to 10 pm Saturday, March 9th.

There will be a raffle that will end on Saturday night, with all proceeds going into a non-profit fund (HelpHOPELive, formerly NTAF) set up in my name to help offset continuing medical costs. You're donations over the last 5 years have aloud me to purchase a wheelchair van, rugby wheelchair, pay for aide assistance and many other related items.

Stop in Friday or Saturday, say hello, have a beer, try your luck and enjoy this years Luau Theme . We will have food and drink over the course of the weekend for a small price. If you're feeling adventurous and would like to try curling, Saturday March 9th from 6pm on there will be open curling for all to try for a small fee.

To my wheelchair friends, the club is NOT currently accessible and does NOT have an accessible bathroom. However, please don't let this discourage you, we have plenty of people to help you bump up and down a few small stairs. And if your interested in getting out on the ice in your chair, we can make that happen too. Just give me a heads up.
