Jim Jablonski
NTAF Northwest Heart Transplant Fund
Jim was blessed with his new heart on July 12, 2009. He is doing absolutely wonderful due to the generosity of his angel donor & the donor's courageous family.
Family and friends of Jim Jablonski continue raising money to pay for any uninsured medical expenses and other financial burdens associated with post heart transplant situations.
Jim had been living with his wife Cheryl (aka Kitty) and their furry cat kids in Holladay, Utah (to be closer to the University of Utah Medical Center where Jim's heart transplant took place) from April 2008 to April 2010. With the help of contributions to the NTAF fund, they still were able to manage their mortgage on their Idaho home also. They returned to their home in Boise after the 'temporary' 2 year relocation.
Post transplant for Jim involves a massive amount of anti-rejection medications and quarterly trips back to the Salt Lake City, Utah hospital for transplant check up appointments, echocardiograms, angiograms, lab tests, etc. The travel for these trips consist of either driving the 5-6 hours both ways (when the weather is good) or flying and renting a car in Utah. Usually the trips involve a 1-3 nights stay in a Salt Lake City hotel.
Most people don't understand the financial responsibilities for post transplant patients, it continues for the rest of their life.
Jim is originally from Oak Lawn, Illinois. He was born, August 26, 1965 with Tetrology of Fallot, a congenital heart disease. Over the years he had endured several open heart surgeries, the first one at 6 months of age. After an episode of tachycardia in 1994 Jim had input a ICD (implanted cardiac defibrillator). He also has dealt with many bouts of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter which lead to numerous cardioversions.
With the help of a friend in Arizona (where Jim lived from 1999-2005) Jim was introduced to fundraise with the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) in part because NTAF provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to his contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses.
