Many of you know my loving husband, Brandon Kaplan. Brandon is 30 years old and is the wonderful father to our 1 year old son Heath Logan. He has always lived a very active life working as a bartender, playing basketball, bicycle riding and he has a brown belt in Judo. Brandon’s dream was to become a wrestler. With hard work and determination he made it happen and became a very successful wrestler.
On May 27th Brandon suffered a severe spinal cord injury. He was diagnosed as a level C5-C6 quadriplegic, was hospitalized in ICU for 6 weeks and is now at the Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation in New Jersey. We have been told he may never walk again. Brandon is working in a highly specialized rehabilitation program. He is now off the ventilator and is working with a speech therapist to regain his ability to speak. He has regained some feeling in his extremities. Brandon has a long road ahead of him but is determined to keep pushing forward every day.
I currently am still working and make enough for our every day living expenses, but not for his injury-related ones. Fees for hospital co-pays, home health care, rehab, and doctors’ visits are very high. We have to modify our home to make it wheelchair accessible and purchase a wheelchair accessible van in order for my husband to live at home. This puts us up against a challenge that we can not meet alone and desperately need your help.
To help with the cost of these uninsured medical expenses and recovery–based therapies a fundraising campaign has been established in Brandon’s honor with HelpHOPELive. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 28 years and the catastrophically injured community for more than 11 years. All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and are administered by HelpHOPELive exclusively for uninsured medically-related expenses.
