“An Interfaith Celebration of Life and Thanksgiving”

Each year, two weekends before Thanksgiving, communities of faith across the country observe National Donor Sabbath.  The weekend has been designated to increase education of organ and tissue donation.

The need for organ and tissue donors is great. As of November 2010, there are nearly 110,000 people on the wait list for a transplant. Unfortunately, 18 people die every day waiting for a life-saving transplant because the number of organs donated in the United States falls critically short of the need.

National Donor Sabbath is an opportunity to discuss the urgent need for donors and encourage people to make faith-based decisions to become organ and tissue donors and discuss it with their families.

Donation is viewed by many religions as a compassionate and generous gift.
