National Donor Sabbath Weekend: November 11-13, 2011

10/25/2011
News

The weekend two weeks before Thanksgiving has been designated by communities of faith across the country as National Donor Sabbath – a three-day observation to increase awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation.

The need for organ/tissue donors is great. As of October 2011, more than 112,000 people are on the wait list for a transplant in the United States. Eighteen people will die each day waiting, because the number of organs donated falls critically short of the need.

National Donor Sabbath provides an opportunity for clergy to discuss the urgent need for donors with their congregation, and encourage people to make faith-based decisions to become organ/tissue donors.  All major religions support organ/tissue donation as an act of compassion and charity.
