Family and friends of Steve Wierengo are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Steve has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility to the full extent allowed by law for donors. On July 18, 2018 I GOT THE CALL!!
Early the next day I got my Transplant from a very Generous Gift of Life!
I want to Thank Everyone for the continued support and prayers!
First I am sorry, I did not even think about people leaving a message on the Help Hope Live page, I wanted to reach out to you and say Thank You for watching my story and a Huge Thank You for reaching out about donating a Kidney
I am going to give you a few links to get things going
1 will be my facebook page about my journey to be able to keep track of my journey
The 2nd will be the page for St Marys Transplant Living Donors, it will have some basic requirments and a phone number to call
I have an A- Blood Type and You or your wife would have to be A or O to get things rolling, the -/+ part will not matter, they will get you going on that also
Thank You so Much for reaching out!
Have a Great Day
I finally got a chance to escape, sit down and write out Thank You emails for the donations that have been received so far! I am truly blessed to call you my friends.
This morning I started with a blank screen and several emails and have finished sending them, to say the least it has been therapeutic although I am sure a few people at Biggby have wondered why I had tears in my eyes.
To sit here and think back at all of the friendships I have made in my life, kept in touch with and still maintain to this day is amazing to me.
As I wrote in the emails, I do not plan on letting this defeat me, it is just a small bump in the road of life
I Thank You again from the bottom of my heart!
Steve

My Invisible Disease
In 2001 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Kidney Disease at the same time through all the testing and procedures, I also found out I only had 1 Kidney. Through healthier eating and exercise, I have been able to keep that stable up until now. In September of 2017 I was referred to St. Mary’s Transplant Center in Grand Rapids due to my function dropping below 20%.. Chances are that percentage can go back up a bit and I will be put on hold (that is my hope anyways)
After numerous tests including a cardio stress test that I made them shake their heads at, meeting Dr’s that couldn’t understand how I have so much energy. The other day while getting a checkup for Blake, I got the call that I was officially put on the Transplant list (which allows me to receive a deceased donor Kidney or a Living Donor Kidney)
Tears of relief began to fall..
Here comes the hard part, asking for the biggest gift anyone can ever give to someone, is the gift of life in my case a viable treatment option (yeah, it’s not a permanent fix unfortunately but better than being hooked to a machine) oh and I’ll get to watch my son grow up and annoy my awesome wife some more
Happy Easter Steve, Stacy and Blake!!
Our Continued prayers for you

A very good college friend of mine was battling kidney failure. She JUST got a new kidney a few months ago. She is taking steroids so that her body does not reject the new kidney and has been in the hospital a few times due to the doctors thinking she might have started the process of rejection. So far, she is still doing well and has not rejected the kidney! *Fingers crossed* Anyways, I know how difficult it is to battle kidney issues after watching what she has gone through and how its effected her entire life. She can't even eat normal food due to the effects it could have on her new kidney -- not just temporarily, but for life. It's a trying situation. I have donated and best of luck to you. It's a long road ahead and I wish you well and hope you get the support and health needed. I will keep you in my prayers!
